JGES Family Forecast Jan 20-24 Week 2
Dear Families,
As we anticipate a week of cold temperatures, we want to remind everyone that students will be outside for recess unless the windchill drops below -20°C. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather with warm coats, hats, gloves, and boots. If you’re in need of outerwear, don’t forget that our Cozy Coat Exchange is available to help provide necessary clothing.
Additionally, we want to address safety concerns during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Please avoid using the no stopping zone across from the school, as this creates a hazard. We’ve also noticed vehicles making U-turns on nearby side streets and cars passing school buses, both of which put students at risk. The morning rush can sometimes lead to impatience and shortcuts, but we ask that you take your time, remain patient, and stay vigilant for students during arrival and dismissal times. We’ve asked the RCMP to increase their presence during these times to help ensure safety. Your attention to these safety measures is greatly appreciated.
Cozy Coat Exchange: The coat rack is located outside the office, and families can stop by during Excelp pick-up, drop-off, or our office hours (8:00 AM - 3:30 PM). If you're unable to come in person, our Child and Youth Practitioner, Jill Flick, can assist with fitting your student with available items. You can reach Jill at jillian.flick@hrce.ca or call 902-464-5192 and leave a message. We hope this helps make winter a little easier for everyone!

Important weather reminders: It is HRCE’s goal to communicate any changes to the regular operations of schools and/or buses as close to 6:00 a.m. as possible. A 6:00 a.m. announcement could be:
-All schools are delayed in opening by two hours and bus pickups are delayed by two hours; or
-All schools are open, but some or all busses are not operating for the day; or
-Some schools (either individually or by family) are closed for the day; or All schools are closed for the day.
If weather deteriorates, or is forecasted to worsen throughout the morning, an 11:00 a.m. announcement could be:
-Bused students will be picked up two hours earlier than their regular dismissal time; and
-Non-bused students will be dismissed at their regularly scheduled lunch hour.
