JGES Family Forecast Nov 4-8

Book fair

Hello Families,

We will be having our Remembrance Day Assembly on November 7th. We are inviting families to send in pictures to be included in our PowerPoint presentation honoring those who are serving and those who have served in any capacity. Pictures can be sent to Mrs. Ewing via email vewing@hrce.ca by November 5th to be included in the PowerPoint.

Any  families members who are veterans or active service personnel and wish to attend our assembly, please be here at 10:15 on November 7th.  Please rsvp Mrs. Ewing via email vewing@hrce.ca.

Lots of inquires about our Winter Holiday concert- the date has been set for December 10 1 pm and will continue to be in the afternoon.  This ensure we have all our staff and students available for the concert. Ticket information will come out soon.

Our hot lunches got better and better last week.  We had improved delivery times to the school, and to the classes.  We had students go outside first and then eat.  They had 20-25 minutes of eating time. This will continue for the next 2 weeks and then we’ll reevaluate.

With the change in weather, it’s important for students to dress for the weather.  Also, I am going to include a write up with this week’s email, and posted to our website on school cancellations- the why and the how.

It’s Book Fair time with week.  The school will get 30-40% back of all the money spent at the bookfair.

As the weather continues to cool, we want to remind everyone of the importance of dressing appropriately for the season. Please ensure that your child comes to school dressed warmly in layers, including a hat, gloves, scarf, and a warm coat. Our goal is to keep everyone comfortable and safe, especially before & after school and also during outdoor lunch. Students are expected to remain outside up to a temperature of “feels like” -20 Celsius.

School lunches: You can now order school lunches for November 10 to November 23. Ordering for these dates must be completed before 12:00PM on Wednesday, November 6. Late orders cannot be accepted.  Orders at https://nslunch.ca/

Picture Retakes: Adams Photography will be back on November  13  for photos for students that missed the first session or need a re-take

Info on Inclement Weather: HRCE takes great care when making the decision to alter the regular operations of schools and school buses in the event of severe or inclement weather.   It is HRCE’s goal to communicate any changes to the regular operations of schools and/or buses as close to 6:00 a.m. as possible. A 6:00 a.m. announcement could be:

  • All schools are delayed in opening by two hours and bus pickups are delayed by two hours ( JGES WOULD OPEN at 10:05 with classes starting at 10:35; or
  • All schools are open, but some or all busses are not operating for the day; or
  • Some schools (either individually or by family- We are AUBURN FAMILY OF SCHOOLS) are closed for the day; or
  • All schools are closed for the day.

If weather deteriorates, or is forecasted to worsen throughout the morning, an 11:00 a.m. announcement could be:

  • Bussed students will be picked up two hours earlier than their regular dismissal time; and
  • Walking students will be dismissed at their regularly scheduled lunch hour.

How will I find out?

It’s important to always have a plan in place for childcare in the event of any cancellation.
