Family Check In May 17

Hello JGES Families,

First, we are hitting 4 weeks of online learning.  We are still in the same storm. It has lasted longer, and has been worse than we thought.  We also don’t all have the same boat.  Everyone has a different situation.  Teachers have been connecting with families and we understand: you are essential workers.  You have shared custody. You are working from home.  You have grandparents helping out.  You are working outside the home.  You aren’t working right now.  You are self-isolating. There are so many challenges and it’s different for each family.

With all this in mind, thank you for doing the best you can with online learning!   This year we have upped our game with more consistent schedules with online and offline learning.   It is important that the students attend ALL online classes, and do the work teachers are providing.  Attendance continues to be high with our online classes.  This is important for ongoing learning and connections.  With this in mind, teachers will reach out if they notice a student is missing time to see what you need.

We still have technology available if you are struggling with technology challenges.  Just email jges@hrce.ca or call 902-464-5192.

This Friday is a Professional development day for staff.  We will be doing virtual PD on Treaty Education. There will be no school for students on Friday.  Monday is Victoria day so there will be no school for students and staff.

Although At-Home learning has been extended until the end of May, we are waiting to see what the direction will be for June.  As soon as we have that information, we’ll be planning to support students for either decision.

Take care,

Mr. Fry
